Tehama Hall Signage Project

OBJECTIVE: To create a new way-finding and signage system for Tehama Hall.

STRATEGY: My team and I quickly realized that we needed to find the best way to organize a large amount of information. To do this, we researched new modern signage on the Internet and studied the ADA standards of signage. We also looked into the existing signage in Tehama Hall to see what could be improved on and what information we needed to keep. We realized that way-finding is often a static system in most buildings. While signs are static, way-finding is a very dynamic process. We wanted to make the directory digital at this point, because it allowed the user to have a wider range of ability based on their personal circumstances. I was in charge of creating the design and interface for the directory. This consisted of making separate pages that were linked through a series of menus on each page. We then made all of the rooms color coded based on the type of room it was (Administrative, classroom, etc.) I also added search pages so that user could directly find the room they were looking for. We would then set up static signs throughout the building in order to better orient the user while using the digital system. The functionality of my design was meant to be similar to that of Google or Apple maps
