NSPR Ad

NSPR Classic Magazine Ad

OBJECTIVE: Design a magazine ad for North State Public Radio “Afternoon Classics” edition.

STRATEGY: My main goal for this project was to find a way to make this advertisement jump out to the reader. Because of the size of the ad, the information needed to be arranged in a way that would provide enough white space around the visual elements, like the title and pictures, while still communicating the message “Your support makes NSPR happen” and the donation website url legibly. I did this by creating a boarder that fit the dimensions and then began to create the type lock ups for the title. Ultimately, the violin ad (right) was chosen to be the best and I chose to do it in black and white to convey a more simple/classic look. The combination of the serif (Mrs. Eaves) and script (Zampfino) created a nice contrast while not taking away too much white space from other elements. I then cut out, Photoshop adjusted and feathered the violinist photo provided to me by NSPR because it fit in between the title and tagline in such a way that drew the reader into the center of the advertisement. It was a way of using the whitespace and visual cues to capture attention and then guide the reader’s eye to the relevant information.
